This course will give you an insight into the fascinating world of materials science; discover exactly what materials science is and where it is applied. Learn all about the research and development work at The University and engage in hands-on activities, putting science into practice wth the help of world-class scientists and engineers.
What will I be doing?
• Discovering the breadth of materials science, with sessions exploring not just engineering materials but also biomedical materials science and technical textiles
• Learning the art of materials selection, combination and optimum use in materials technology across a range of engineering applications
• Discovering the fundamental relationships between different materials, the form they take and the jobs they perform
• Exploring the physical and chemical properties of modern materials and how they determine their application
• Working on a team project to design, build and test an aerospace component
• Taking part in our 'Demolition Derby' to learn more about materials used in car manufacture
• Finding out what it is like to work as a materials engineer with a visit to Jaguar Land Rover
• Improving skills in team building, communication, time management, problem-solving, planning and presentation
