This course provides an introduction to Nuclear Marine Engineering, including how a pressurised water reactor works, as well as the propulsion and electrical generation systems used on a sea going vessel. You'll have the unique opportunity to stay in a military establishment for the duration of the course*, and to take part in practical workshops alongside professional engineers.
What will I be doing?
• Attending a series of practical workshops and lectures
• Learning about radiation and gamma ray spectroscopy in a laboratory environment
• Visiting the Submarine Museum, HMS Alliance and 'Action Stations' at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard
• Developing your teamwork, communication, problem-solving and time-management skills
• Finding out about careers in designing, building, maintaining and operating a complex engineering plant
• Taking part in extra-curricuar sporting activities and a formal dinner in the Wardroom at HMS Excellent
* Only British Nationals wil be accepted onto the course on the basis that the course is being run at a Military establishment.
