Mining engineers are responsible for the safe and economic production of minerals, including gold, diamonds, coal, oil, clay and limestone. Sponsored by two of the world's largest mining companies, Anglo American and Rio Tinto, this course shows you how mining underpins so much of modern life and how technology is used to limit its environmental impact. You’ll also enjoy hands-on experience in handling minerals.
What will I be doing?
• Learning how minerals are found, mined and processed
• Visiting one of Europe’s largest limestone quarries
• Exploring minerals and their properties and what will happen when they run out
• Considering your prospects, including world travel and exploration
• Visiting the Eden Project’s education centre
• Talking to young engineers and hearing their advice and knowledge
