We’re looking for an experienced Finance Director to help shape the future of our organisation. This is a high-impact, hands-on role where you’ll bring strategic thinking, commercial insight and financial leadership to a mission-led charity.
You’ll work closely with the Chief Executive, Board of Trustees and Finance & Audit Committee, playing a central role in strengthening financial governance, improving insight and supporting confident, informed decision-making across the organisation.

Strategic financial leadership
- Act as a trusted adviser to the Chief Executive, Senior Leadership Team and Board
- Provide clear financial insight, modelling and analysis to support strategy
- Lead budgeting, forecasting and long-term financial planning
- Develop high-quality monthly reporting, including forecasts, variance analysis and KPIs
- Strengthen financial planning to support long-term sustainability
- Present financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial audiences
- Build risk management frameworks to mitigate financial and operational risks
Financial control and governance
- Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and financial requirements, including Companies House and the Charity Commission
- Act as Company Secretary
- Maintain the integrity, accuracy and timeliness of all financial reporting
- Strengthen financial controls and governance across the organisation
- Lead statutory accounts preparation and external audit processes
- Oversee tax, VAT and charity compliance
- Improve finance systems and processes using technology
- Manage relationships with external stakeholders such as HMRC, auditors and insurers
Leadership and collaboration
- Lead and support the Finance team (2 colleagues), helping them grow and develop
- Work closely with teams across the organisation to provide clear, relevant financial insight
- Support departmental planning and reporting
- Deputise for the Chief Executive when required
About you:
You’re a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with significant senior finance leadership experience. You’re as comfortable shaping strategy as you are working in the detail, and you bring a practical, collaborative approach.
We’re particularly interested in someone who can demonstrate:
- Strong commercial and strategic financial capability
- Experience improving reporting, forecasting, controls and management information
- A hands-on, solutions-focused mindset
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information clearly
- High levels of integrity, judgement and credibility
- An interest in working in a purpose-led organisation
Knowledge of VAT and charity SORP would be an advantage, but isn’t essential.
