FAQs

If you’ve got a question about how our Ignition and Momentum courses work, you might find the answers you’re looking for here.

What’s the best way to apply?

Your son or daughter will need to apply using our online form. We’ll get their application straightaway, and do all of the legwork for them –seeking your permission as their guardian to attend, and from their school for approval.

What sort of activities will my child do?

No matter what course your child chooses, they’ll be encouraged to work in small groups on design-and-build projects to put their engineering skills and knowledge to work. It’s a great way to challenge and build communication, problem solving and presentation skills. From time to time, they may also go off-campus on site visits, but they will be fully supervised.

How safe will they be?

The safety and security of students is our first priority. That’s why all our staff are fully trained, DBS checked and qualified in First Aid. We visit and rate all of our venues and only choose the best ones based on reputation and the quality of facilities, and prefer self-contained campuses over city-centre locations. We also fully supervise any field trips as part of the course, with an average of one teacher to every 10 students. Find out more about our safety and supervision policies.

How much does it cost?

Our courses vary in price, from £0 to £475. All course fees are clearly shown, with no hidden or extra charges. Prices include full-board accommodation on campus, but transport to and from the course venue and any additional snacks and refreshments are not included. Course fees are also non-refundable, and we reserve the right to charge non-attendance at the full unsubsidised rate where less than 10 days notice is given.

When is payment required?

Unless otherwise stated, your payment is required within 2 weeks of receiving our invoice. An offer may be withdrawn if no payment is received. Cancellation of a course will result in a full refund.

Can I spread the costs?

In some circumstances, we can spread the cost of the course fee over an agreed timeframe. If immediate payment is an issue, you may be able to work out an agreed payment plan by calling our Head of Operations on 01926 333 200.

What will students eat?

All our courses are full-board and we provide a choice of meals, including vegetarian options. We can also cater for special dietary requirements as long as they are detailed on the Student Health form. We provide soft drinks with meals and any extra snacks and drinks can be purchased separately.

Where will students stay?

Students stay on a university campus in non-mixed accommodation. We either separate students into all-girl or all-boy blocks, on different floors or by locked doors. Only Smallpeice course attendees reside in this accommodation which is supervised by DBS-checked adults of the same gender.

What if I have more questions?

Feel free to get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to answer any of your questions.

Is the course content likely to change?

All information on the course leaflet is correct at the time of publication. The Smallpeice Trust reserves the right to cancel or change any aspect of a course without notice. In the unlikely event of the course being cancelled, you’ll get a full refund.
