Safety & Supervision
As a parent, we know that peace of mind for your child’s safety is paramount – no matter how old they are. That’s why we provide full supervision for all of our courses. For added reassurance, you can see what typically happens on Ignition & Momentum courses in our videos and find answers to common questions below.
You can view our risk assessment and student protection policy documents here:
What sort of activities will my child do?
No matter what course your child chooses, they’ll be encouraged to work in small groups on design-and-build projects to put their engineering knowledge into practice. It’s a great way to challenge and build communication, problem solving and presentation skills. From time to time, they may also go off-campus on site visits, but they will be fully supervised.
How safe will they be?
The safety and security of students is our first priority. That’s why all our staff are fully trained, DBS checked and qualified in First Aid. We visit and rate all of our venues and only choose the best ones based on reputation and the quality of facilities, and prefer self-contained campuses over city-centre locations. We also fully supervise any field trips as part of the course, with an average of one teacher to every 10 students.
What will they eat?
All our courses are full-board and we provide a choice of meals, including vegetarian options. We can also cater for special dietary requirements as long as they are detailed on the Student Health form.
We provide soft drinks with meals and any extra snacks and drinks can be purchased separately.
Where will they stay?
Students stay on a university campus in non-mixed accommodation. We either separate students into all-girl or all-boy blocks, on different floors or locked doors. Only people involved in The Smallpeice course stay in this accommodation, which is supervised by DBS-checked adults of the same gender.
