At The Smallpeice Trust, we believe every young person should have the opportunity to discover their potential in STEM. That’s why, with our national outreach programme, we’re sparking curiosity every day in young people aged 8-18.
Our STEM in the Community programme aims to go further.
A free programme of STEM workshops taking place in during school holidays, it reaches young people in trusted local spaces like youth clubs, libraries and other community venues, creating accessible opportunities beyond the classroom. Through hands-on engineering and STEM activities, we help young people build confidence, spark curiosity and discover future pathways into STEM careers.
Community settings help young people feel relaxed, confident and open to new ideas. That’s why our programmes are practical, inclusive and welcoming, and delivered locally in familiar spaces where young people already feel comfortable.
How and where we deliver
We deliver free STEM workshops and engineering activities in accessible community settings, making it easy for young people to get involved and continue their STEM journey. Taking place during school holidays and weekends, these hands-on sessions help young people try STEM for the first time, build confidence and progress into further opportunities.
Youth Centre Courses (Ages 11–16)
Two-day immersive courses delivered during school holidays. These sessions:
- provide deeper, hands-on STEM experiences
- support young people who may not thrive in school settings
- build confidence, teamwork and problem-solving skills
Community Library Sessions (Ages 11–14)
90-minute workshops delivered on weekends and during holidays. These sessions:
- are easy to access and low commitment
- introduce real-world STEM concepts
- spark curiosity in a familiar, welcoming environment

Creating local impact through STEM
We focus on reaching young people underrepresented in STEM, particularly in areas of highest need, by working with businesses, local authorities, libraries and community organisations to deliver measurable social impact.
