Everything you need to know

Do you have a question?

If you’ve got a question about the Coding Success programme, you might find the answers you’re looking for here. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, please get in touch – we’re here to help!

To secure a place on Coding Success this year, your school must be a non-selective state school in England, Wales, or Scotland that hasn’t taken part before.

Places are initially offered to schools nominated by our funders, then opened out and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. We use certain criteria to ensure brilliant regional spread and encourage participation from a wide range of students.

We’re designed for 8-14 year-olds across Wales, Scotland, and England – that’s primary school students (Years 4-6 or P5-7) and secondary school students (Years 7-9 or S1-3).

The training session lasts about 5 hours, and each lesson fits perfectly into a 1-hour teaching period.
We estimate you’ll need an additional 4 hours for preparation, administration, and evaluation – but it’s time well spent!

Yes! If you and your students complete the programme, your school owns the sets*. If you decide not to continue, you’ll need to return the kits to us (at your expense).
*Please note that some kits may be held centrally for schools nominated by funders. We’ll let you know if this applies to your school when we confirm your booking.

Absolutely! The programme is fully funded by our amazing partners – BAE Systems and the Royal Air Force – so schools receive the kit, training and resources completely free of charge.
Schools that sign up commit to attending training, delivering a minimum of one project to 60 students* per year for 3 years, and completing our programme evaluation each year.
*If your school was nominated by a funder and is a small school, we’ve relaxed the 60-student commitment.

Primary and secondary schools receive the same brilliant lesson plans and materials, with the flexibility to follow more or less challenging paths. The coding language looks and feels just like Scratch, using familiar drag-and-drop blocks that make it accessible for everyone.
Students ready for an extra challenge can develop their text-based coding skills through a fun introduction to Python – giving even greater power to their amazing robots!

Yes! Coding Success is already accredited for the CREST Discovery award. You can download the CREST Discovery Passport from our resource bank.
Students simply fill in the passport as they complete the programme, then apply for their CREST Discovery award at the end.
This is administered by the British Science Association, not Coding Success. Depending on your region, there may be a fee for the CREST Discovery award application – Coding Success doesn’t cover this cost.

Absolutely! Coding Success supports the curriculum in computing, science, and maths across Wales, Scotland, and England. That means Key Stage 2 and 3 in Wales and England, and Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence for P5-7 and S1-3.
The programme also brilliantly supports soft-skills development.

Each school can only apply once. However, the kits and resources are completely reusable, and we actively encourage trained teachers to share their knowledge with colleagues.
If you had a trained teacher who’s since left, please contact us – we have limited training places available for new teachers.
