Make a difference
with engineering

The Arkwright Engineering Scholarship programme inspires passionate young people to pursue their dreams of changing the world through through a combination of mentoring, funding, and real-world exposure during the two year scholarship programme. It’s a powerful way to demonstrate individual achievements when applying to university or for a degree apprenticeship.

While your classmates fill their applications with details of which science and technology clubs they’re members of, you’ll have the added bonus of stating that you’re one of our Arkwright Scholars. And that’s something that sets you apart.

Arkwright Engineering Scholarships can support you to become a future leader in engineering, computing or technical design.

Key benefits for
Arkwright scholars

Mentoring

You’ll have access to an engineering mentor who can provide advice and guidance on pathways to engineering, future study and career development. They’ll be available to answer questions about your future interests, as well as provide support or guidance on any projects you may be undertaking.

Access to exclusive events

We run a wide range of exclusive in-person and virtual STEM events for scholars, alongside our partner companies and universities. Some will give you a behind-the-scenes look at the work that goes on in industry or STEM education, others will bring together panels of experts to answer your questions on topics like automotive engineering and the energy sector.

Financial award

Fully sponsored scholars will receive a £250 grant for both years of the scholarship. This is a financial award to spend on STEM-related activities including buying material, travel to events, or funding independent projects.

We believe every talented young person deserves the chance to call themselves an Arkwright Scholar. That’s why we created our Virtual Arkwright Scholarship Pathway, funded directly by Smallpeice Trust.

Through this pathway, we’ve opened doors for hundreds more deserving students across the UK. Virtual scholars gain access to exclusive online enrichment opportunities, specialist resources, and a supportive community that will accelerate their development and progression into engineering.

It’s another way we’re expanding access and ensuring brilliant young minds get the recognition and support they deserve.

How to apply?

Your school or youth community organisation must be signed up to the Arkwright Engineering Scholarships programme before they can nominate you. You must be within the eligible age bracket (typically Year 11 in England and Wales, S4 in Scotland, or Year 12 in Northern Ireland).

“I can categorically say if I hadn't done the Arkwright scholarship, I would have ended up somewhere completely different — not doing what I love.”
