Common questions about our events
I am a teacher, where can I see events for me/my class?
Our events calendar will show all events that are currently live and that you can book directly on. This is typically our teacher CPD event, Coding Success, and our Road to RIAT Primary school livestreams as these have set dates.
The majority of our free STEM days for Primary and Secondary schools are offered directly to schools via our Schools team as there may be geographical or other restrictions set by our funders. You can contact the Schools team directly on stemday@smallpeicetrust.org.uk to enquire about current availability. With over 400 free STEM days offered to state schools across the UK, we have lots to offer and can also keep your school on a reserve list as new opportunities arise.
I am a young person, what events are suitable for me?
Our multi-day courses are aimed at ages 12-17. These run in the school holidays and we start advertising these from late Autumn each year. You can read more about our courses here.
Which course should I book in terms of year group?
We ask that you refer to the specific course page for details. However, we generally work to the rule that if you have just finished one school year but are yet to start another, the year you have just finished dictates the courses you can apply for. So, if you finished Year 10 in July and wanted to attend a course in August before starting Year 11, you could only join a Year 10 course.
What does limited availability mean?
We have less than 25% of places left! So please do book quickly to avoid disappointment.Â
Is my place definitely confirmed when I book?
Not completely. We always have to check that you are eligible to attend as many of our events have specific criteria, such as the split of girls/boys on courses, or where you are based. This is because all of our events are subsidised by Smallpeice as a charity, with additional funding provided by our generous Funders. Our aim is to widen access to our programmes and we continue to work with our funders on growing our programmes across the UK.Â
We will let you know within 48 hours if your place is confirmed, but for some events with a high volume of applications this can take longer.
I am having problems making a booking
These are some of the common problems that might arise. If your issue isn’t included here then please contact us.Â
- You may not meet the correct criteria – some events are set up to stop bookings if the criteria isn’t met. The common ones are gender and age, so please double check the event details to make sure you are eligible
- You are an Akwright Scholar and cant book on to an Arkwright event – we will have provided Scholars with a code to add when booking as part of an email promoting that event, so please check you are using the correct one
We have more FAQs specific to some of our programmes, so please do check these out as well:
