We were pleased to hear from Peter Cutts, a retired Head of Education for a Local Council, who shared his perspective as a parent of a Smallpeice Trust participant. Reflecting on his daughter’s experience at one of our summer schools, Peter speaks about the excitement, inspiration, and confidence she gained through engineering activities and teamwork. Here’s Peter’s story.
How did your child first get involved with The Smallpeice Trust?
Three years ago, my daughter’s school sent a letter to parents drawing attention to the Smallpeice Trust summer schools. When I shared this with my daughter, she was immediately interested in getting involved.
What did they gain from the experience?
She found the experience really gripping and felt she learned a great deal about working as a team on interesting engineering projects.
What would you say to another parent thinking about enrolling their child?
I would say don’t hesitate. The summer activities are really well organised, interesting and fun. Your child will quickly find friends and other like-minded young people. It will definitely open their eyes to just how fascinating and rewarding engineering can be.
Can you share a moment or experience that captures what The Smallpeice Trust is all about for you?
For me, greeting a daughter after the residential who is full of excited talk about the things she’s done during the three days, talking about going again next
year and brimming full of ideas about engineering pathways she might pursue in the future.
With thanks to Peter Cutts for taking the time to share his family’s experience, we’re delighted to have played a part in inspiring the next generation of engineers and look forward to seeing where his daughter’s journey takes her in the future.
