60 Stories for 60 Years: Caroline – Head of Content at The Smallpeice Trust

After spending many years in teaching, Caroline joined The Smallpeice Trust in September 2023, driven by a desire to continue making a meaningful difference in young people’s lives beyond the classroom. As Head of Content, she plays a key role in bringing the Trust’s mission to life, sharing stories that inspire the next generation to explore STEM. Passionate about creating engaging experiences for young people, Caroline reflects on what drew her to the Trust, the impact she’s seen firsthand, and why its mission continues to inspire her. Here’s her story.

When did you first join the Smallpeice Trust, and what drew you to it?

I joined The Smallpeice Trust in September 2023 after spending many years in teaching. While I loved working in education, I was looking for a new challenge that would allow me to continue making a real difference to young people’s lives. The Trust immediately stood out because of its mission to inspire the next generation through STEM, and I was excited by the opportunity to be part of an organisation that gives students hands-on experiences and opens their eyes to future possibilities. It felt like the perfect way to combine my passion for education with the chance to make an impact on an even wider scale.

One of the biggest changes has been our refreshed brand and renewed focus on taking STEM into community spaces, helping us reach even more young people. It’s been exciting to see the Trust evolve in ways that make our work even more accessible and impactful. Seeing our new identity come to life, alongside our commitment to engaging students wherever they are, has been a real highlight of my time here.

What are you most proud of as we celebrate 60 years?

I’m proud of the moments where we’ve really sparked something for a young person – where you can see they’ve really enjoyed the activity as well as the moments of creativity and resilience we see on every STEM day.

Can you share a moment or experience that captures what The Smallpeice Trust is all about for you?

For me the Smallpeice Trust is all about engaging young people, so the best moments are when I get to go into a school and see that engagement: students proudly sharing their work, explaining what they’ve done and buzzing with
excitement about STEM.

As The Smallpeice Trust celebrates 60 years of inspiring young people, Caroline is proud to be part of an organisation that is helping shape the future of STEM education. Whether it’s through creating engaging content or seeing students light up with excitement during a STEM Day, she is passionate about helping young people discover what’s possible. She looks forward to continuing to share the Trust’s impact and inspiring the next generation of engineers, innovators and changemakers.
