During university, and since leaving, I’ve continued to work with Arkwright – I have assisted during interview days for new Scholarship applicants at Lancaster and Heriot-Watt Universities (giving presentations and leading tours) and more recently online. It’s a strange, but satisfying, feeling to sit on the other side of that same table that I encountered nearly 20 years ago. I have also previously mentored Arkwright Scholars, giving guidance on university choices, personal statements and career paths. It’s incredibly rewarding to be able to give back to Arkwright.

I am now Head of Advisory at Locogen, a renewable energy consultancy that design, develop, build and operate renewables projects. I am responsible for managing the Advisory team who provide end to end technical and commercial advice for renewable projects, from planning through to construction and into the operational stage, for onshore wind, ground-mounted solar, energy storage and green hydrogen projects. Our team work with individual organisations looking to install a single wind turbine, up to huge developers who are working on huge multi-site projects, but I really enjoy working with community groups who are just looking to decarbonise their little part of the country.

In the future I hope to keep doing what I’m doing! Seeing so many renewable energy projects achieving planning consent or being constructed gives an enormous sense of achievement and makes me feel like I’m part of a bigger team working to build a better future for everyone.

Arkwright has introduced me to a huge network of people through my initial Scholarship and my continued work with the Trust. It has opened doors and provided further opportunities for me to interact with academics, industry leaders and pupils alike. Arkwright undoubtedly enhanced my A level studies and with Rolls Royce as my Sponsor, I built an incredibly influential period of experience on my CV. My continued interest in Engineering and the other STEM subjects is continually strengthened by my interaction with Arkwright.

I would recommend that any pupil with a passion for Engineering should apply for a Scholarship and that any company that has a need for high quality Professional Engineers should seriously consider supporting Arkwright Engineering Scholars.
