What
The day kicks off with students stepping into the role of engineers. After an introduction to engineering principles and winch components, they will open their STEM challenge kit and get straight to work. Using the materials provided, they will design, build and test their own rescue winches, putting their problem-solving and creativity to the test.
They will become winch mechanics, figuring out how forces, gears, and pulleys work before making their own DIY rescue winch.
It’s a hands-on, creative start that gets everyone thinking, problem-solving, and working together for the challenge ahead.
How
This event incorporates the following:
Explore the science of forces and winch mechanics to understand the principles behind real rescue systems.
Design, build, and test their own working rescue winches, applying engineering concepts in a practical way.
Tackle challenges like real engineers, using critical thinking and collaboration to refine their designs.
