Road to RIAT returns! This fantastic, free programme gives 300 state primary schools the opportunity to explore the exciting world of STEM. Generously funded by the RAF Charitable Trust, in partnership with the RAF and supported by Accenture.
Students in Year 5-6 (or equivalent) will have the opportunity to get involved in numerous activities throughout the academic year starting with the STEM Challenge - an exciting full-day workshop and competition delivered virtually to classrooms across the UK – with some fantastic prizes on offer for the competition winners!
About the STEM Challenge Day
In the morning, students will have the chance to get hands-on with STEM and unleash their creativity as they take part in an exciting activity – The Space Challenge. Working in teams, students will design, build and test a rocket for launching a satellite into space.
Then in the afternoon, students will take part in a brand-new activity – The Sustainability of Aerospace – challenging students to design a sustainable aircraft of the future, before developing a poster to present their ideas.
Each school will then be able to submit their best sustainable aircraft design to our competition, for the chance to win a range of exciting prizes, including £100, two LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime kits and the opportunity to attend the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) in July 2023!

This is an exciting opportunity for your Year 5-6 (England and Wales), P5-6 (Scotland) or Year 6-7 (Northern Ireland) students to become aerospace engineers for the morning!
We will supply each school with all the equipment and materials required for the project for up to 45 students from each school, guiding them through the engineering cycle of planning, creating, testing, and improving via a YouTube Live link.
Following the STEM Challenge Day, all schools will be invited to attend our Meet the STEM Superstar Session in the Summer term – a live event introducing students to real life STEM role models and giving them the opportunity to learn more about the industry.
